The American Academy of Physician Assistants in Occupational Medicine (AAPA-OM) was founded in 1981 as an educational organization to represent physician assistants (PAs) who share a common interest and role in the care of the working person and prevention of workplace illness and injury. In addition to serving as the voice and advocate of PAs in occupational medicine, AAPA-OM strives to promote continuing education for its members, to provide PA employment information to Occupational Medicine physicians, and to strengthen the role of PAs by supporting and encouraging membership in AAPA and other occupational medicine societies.

Membership has its privileges, and in AAPA-OM that means a quarterly AAPA-OM newsletter, a membership directory, an annual business meeting, and CME opportunities at AAPA's Annual PA Conference. Additionally, AAPA-OM offers an opportunity for leadership. The organization is led by a board of directors that includes a president, president-elect, vice president, past president, secretary, and treasurer. They are elected annually and take office on July 1. Members can also become involved on one of the various board committees: newsletter, membership, legislative affairs, or conference planning.

AAPA-OM serves its members by providing a forum for exchange of information and ideas to ensure delivery of the highest quality, state-of-the-art preventive services. In order to maintain safe and healthy workers and work environments, we strive to form mutually beneficial relationships with other occupational health and safety professionals. We endorse and support the code of ethical conduct as established by the American College of Occupational Medicine.
